Sketch and Sip sits quietly tucked in Carlyle's Court, blending the laid-back charm of a café with the creativity of an art space and the buzz of a cocktail bar. It’s the kind of spot where you can easily spend a lazy afternoon painting plant pots or making trinket boxes, while enjoying a well-made coffee or an inventive mocktail. The atmosphere leans toward cozy rather than loud, with gentle lighting that invites you to unwind without feeling overstimulated.

This place works well for anyone looking to combine creativity with a social outing—whether that’s a casual date, a catch-up with friends, or a family trip that includes kids trying their hand at some art. Locals seem drawn to the friendly, approachable vibe of the staff and the little extras they bring to each visit, like helpful guidance on the projects and a warm atmosphere that doesn’t rush you out the door.

The menu plays into the artistic theme with whimsical mocktails such as The Shark and Pixie Dust, alongside a handful of light bites like homemade scones and vegan or gluten-free cake slices. It’s a spot where you can slowly sip a Watercolour Gin or an Abstract Aperol while watching your painting come to life or calmly flipping through sketching materials provided for spontaneous coloring sessions. The mix of art and drinks offers a well-rounded experience that feels both engaging and unpretentious.

Early afternoons, especially mid-week, seem like the smoothest times to visit if you want space to spread out your art supplies and really settle in. The gentle lighting and cheerful yet relaxed vibe here make it inviting for creative types who appreciate a quiet buzz rather than a noisy bar scene. If you’re local, it’s a place for casual afternoons with a twist—part hobby studio, part neighborhood café, part low-key bar with personality.

Overall, Sketch and Sip caters to those who enjoy a bit of hands-on fun paired with good drinks and friendly faces, a place where artistic endeavors and simple pleasures intersect comfortably in the heart of Carlisle.

Stumbled upon this marvellous place by accident and so glad we did! These guys are amazing. So helpful, creative and just the best banter! So much to do here and they go the extra mile to make it special for you. Food and drinks are exceptional. No wonder we’re there almost every week!

Cheerful atmosphere! The lighting isn’t harsh so it makes it feel cozy. I got a flat white with oat milk - tasted great. Also treated myself to a waffle. One word for it. AMAZING. If you are feeling particularly artsy, you can grab some pencils and do a colour-in sheet.

We stumbled upon this amazing art café and bar whilst travelling home. It is absolutely lovely and very well priced. Teenage daughter and younger boy also both enjoyed the experience, the food and the shop upstairs. We will definitely be visiting again now we know about Sketch and Sip! Thank you!!

The staff were brilliant, lovely and friendly. I was having another wounder around town. I knew the one of the woman that own/ruins it any way. The food is brilliant. Definitely recommend to everyone and anyone.

The staff and atmosphere are SOOO nice here! Super friendly to chat to, really fun place to take kids or just to chill on your break at work. Their inclusion of a bunch of activities you can do is probably my favourite part, they’re all super high quality materials and easy instructions!
